Introduction
Tobacco use is a major public health concern due to its significant impact on health. The consumption of tobacco, whether through smoking, chewing, or other forms, has been extensively studied and linked to numerous health issues. tobacco is a nicotine-based substance that chronically affects the nervous system of the body and leads to major life-threatening diseases.
When we commonly speak about tobacco most of us know about its ill effects on our health what it will and might do to our health and how it will affect us. Yet the mystery of dopamine secretion overrides the system into ignoring those facts and following an uncontrollable urge to smoke or chew tobacco. first of all, before we dive into the details of tobacco addiction let us first understand what dopamine is and how it affects us in believing and chasing the never-ending urge to consume narcotics.
Dopamine its functions and effects:
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical messenger in the brain that plays several important roles in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). Dopamine is a versatile and crucial neurotransmitter involved in numerous physiological processes, from movement and reward to cognition and mood regulation. Imbalances in dopamine levels can lead to various neurological and psychiatric disorders, highlighting its significance in maintaining normal brain function.
Dopamine, one of the key ingredients(hormone) in running our body, is involved in multiple functions. Dopamine is responsible for motor coordination helping our CNS maintain well-balanced coordinated body movements required for performing complex body functions, it also takes care of our emotions and mood regulation which works in balance with other hormones like serotonin.
Our mental functions like focus and attention are also controlled by the secretion of this hormone, which in turn benefits the human ability to learn and memorize different aspects required for survival. One of the most important functions of dopamine which makes it a double-edged sword is the reward and pleasure response of the brain.
Dopamine is crucial in the brain’s reward system. It is released during pleasurable activities and experiences, reinforcing behaviours and making them more likely to be repeated. Where there is pleasure, the pain of addiction follows.
When we do some activity that gives a sense of pleasure or sense of achievement we feel happy or motivated and that’s the result of dopamine secretion. When such activity is repeated the secretion of hormones also increases, which leads to making us feel the need for more, and those acts are repeated. We are creatures whose one of the goals is to find pleasure and a sense of satisfaction. When slowly such actions are driven by an uncontrolled urge to repeat, it’s called an addiction.
Tobacco and Dopamine:
Tobacco is one of the main concerns of society which is responsible for hacking into this dopamine network mainframe. When a person consumes tobacco for the first time there is a slight resistance from our brain which makes us not consume it. But once we have ignored it then that urge to consume tobacco is overpowering. The will of the body to consciously stop consuming it is suppressed. Our rational way of thinking and acting is destroyed over time.
As mentioned earlier dopamine is not responsible for only pleasure and reward mechanisms, it also takes care of other bodily functions like emotions, attention, movement and coordination, memory etc. Hence when a substance like tobacco is consumed it overwhelms the nervous system and destroys the very foundation of the natural functioning of these important aspects.
Hence every time a person smokes or chews tobacco his whole control system of these functions is overridden by a false sense of control and empowering feel, which lasts till the tobacco is triggering the dopamine response. Any productive work done during this period is under the influence of these chemicals and hence does not lead to any form of personal development. hence without the use of such chemicals, the person finds himself unable to perform the same task with the same output potential.
Every smoker before he or she lights a cigarette has an inner sense of rational line of thought that urges him to not smoke as the wise and advanced body is able to understand it’s not a good habit, over time Tobacco’s control over the mind and body wins in a battle with our will power. If we don’t have the will to resist that urge then we are as weak as a rat experimented in a lab with these chemicals.
Many people want to quit smoking but their will is not strong enough to force the addiction out. There are a lot of individuals who are driven by strong will and find themselves defeating this enemy without even breaking a sweat (no withdrawals) how do they do that? and why don’t they do it from the beginning?
How does tobacco start becoming an addiction?
Here we have to understand the evolution of our mind concerning getting acquainted with these drugs. Most individuals when they begin smoking, their lives are in a very low state where another person gives them this false sense of information that smoking will alleviate their state of mind and bring back their life.
When the person smokes, even though his body resists the first puff with a cough yet he ignores it and continues to enjoy the pleasure and uplift of his mood. As time passes before he/she knows it they are already servants of this tiny piece of paper wrapping a harmful devil in a disguise called tobacco.
Another case where in today’s modern world most common thing is, “smoking is the new cool”. when we see in movies known valued celebrities walking at a small pace or lying on chairs puffing on tobacco cigarettes in slow motion it influences the young generation to replicate their role model’s actions in the hope to achieve similar fame in their ordinary life. This is also true among friends family or colleagues, where if you don’t smoke you are not welcome.
Most of us who are involved in chain smoking habits are mostly literate people who know for a fact that it’s wrong. They can read and understand that every pack of cigarettes has a written warning about what it can cause. The pack of cigarettes is advertising the bad effects of smoking more than the cigarette itself, yet in this era of modernisation where we consider ourselves advanced civilisation compared to the stone age, we are acting completely like illiterate animals, with no will of our own to control ourselves from succumbing to a tiny piece of paper and grass? and yet we claim to be all mighty, smart and powerful?
Cancer is not the worst of our Tobacco related problems:
Most people believe that smoking will only give them cancer or similar diseases that are life-threatening and that the idea of “everyone will die some day or the other” basically eliminates any possibility of them developing fear and quitting smoking. But unfortunately, that’s not the only thing that smoking does that’s the least of our worries. Death is breaking free from this prison of addiction. The sad part is most people don’t die that easy
Tobacco takes away the quality of life that our creator has bestowed upon us to enjoy. It brings us years of suffering and hidden pain in the form of a fancy-wrapped gift. When a person consumes tobacco first of all he is not himself he is a slave. Who likes to be a slave? The whole world fought colonists to end slavery and torture yet we chose a new colonist who colonise our brain and we invite them in like the Trojan horse virus.
the body is flooded with chemicals that are worse than pollution and that thicken the blood. our whole body, every cell receives its nutrition through pure oxygen-rich blood. Every cell lives and thrives with that source of energy, and we chose to replace that with smoke and nicotine? The cells don’t get the nutrients they need to feel young. Gradually they start to die and become old.

Have you ever seen a smoker? Those who smoke cigarettes have you ever seen your face in the mirror and compared yours to others of your age? You will notice a mind-blowing difference. You will see your age earlier than others, and who likes to look 80 years old at the age of 30? What is the point of applying makeup and all chemicals then?
Passive consumer of tobacco and their health:
Another main aspect of tobacco especially when it comes to smoking is the adverse effect on those around us. Our loved ones our parents our wives and most importantly our children for whom we are struggling in life and working hard to earn so that their future will be bright. But in the quest to make their future bright, it is covered with smoke.
Most of us think that as long as they don’t smoke in front of children it’s okay but smoke is not the only thing that kills them. Every bit of the nicotine running through veins that makes the body feel a false sense of comfort, is what is expelled out through breath, sweat etc, who inhales it? The same humans who you care about. Is it worth it?
Do you as a father or mother even need motivation to stop smoking? we say we will lay our life for our kids but are unable to let go of a tiny cigarette. is it that difficult? those who care about their life, and their loved ones will have a strong will to liberate their brain and body from colonial tobacco without leaving any trace to even a withdrawal.
Motivate yourself to quit tobacco:

Quit tobacco not because others want you to, not because doctors say it’s bad, but because you are not weak, you need to enjoy your life in its purest form and face all the struggles that come with it as you are, on your own, with your own power. Your health your life your present and your future is what you are working so hard for.
What’s the point of all that if that is all going to go in smoke? Your will is stronger than a few grams of nicotine. You have the power to control any urge to stop smoking if you wish to. All you need is to ask the question, I am my own man or i am a slave to this tiny tobacco? You can completely give up the idea of ever touching a cigarette for the sake of your freedom if you wish to.
Conclusion:
Through this article, I also request our government to not only advertise the bad effects of tobacco and how it kills but also to create norms to stop the production and sale of cigarettes. The government and its people have to spend much more on the treatment of these problems than they earn from selling cigarettes. and it’s not worth it!
Note: In movies, a tiny no-smoking warning is shown at the bottom of the screen as a legal formality but it is worthless when compared to a celebrity actor advertising smoking with style. The idea that smoking is bad just disappears when you see a celebrity you respect smokes
