Dr M B Prabhu receiving the medal from Dr T T Ang, chairman of Chinese Nature Cure Centre at Aurangabad for his research in acupuncture
Dr M B Prabhu from Sai Acupuncture Research Centre based in Mapusa was awarded a medal of appreciation for outstanding performance at the International Acupuncture Conference which was held at Hotel Rama International which was inaugurated by the Chairman of Chinese Nature Cure Centre Dr T T Ang. This award was for discovering and presenting three new concepts in the Five Element Theory of Acupuncture.
The programme was chaired by the chairman if the Indian Academy of Acupuncture Science Dr P B Lohiya. Also present were Dr Justin Morais of Singapore, Dr Helena Abdullah from Malaysia, Dr Bharasvadkar, Dr Nimale and Dr Ong Liyat.
Dr Prabhu has done a lot of research in acupuncture and has treated a lot of chronic cases satisfactorily. Dr Prabhu had also been awarded with the special award ‘Doctor of Science’ in 1996 at the International Congress of Medical Acupuncture.
Dr Prabhu stated that the 5000 years old Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) five theory which is most effective in diagnostic and treating the cases, was not enough to explain totally and hence a lot of difficulties which acupuncture practitioners were facing in understanding the exact reason of the patients suffering were related to pulse diagnosis.
Dr Prabhu struck on the solution and he derived three new concepts to simplify the Five element Theory as follows; (i) the grand mother-Grand child law (ii) New Yin five element and Yang five element theory cycles separately (iii) Concept of sedating one yang and one Yin organ of twelve, to balance whole five element cycle ie health.
Dr Prabhu has been invited to present and explain these new theories at the Second World Congress on Acupuncture and Complementary healing systems to be held at Delhi by ICCM in January 1998.
